Nonna in Antartica
3rd year collection 2025/2026

Florals
This collection explores the most classic print associated with grandmothers: florals. The investigation spans multiple techniques and interpretations, blending nostalgia with modernity.

Knit Jacquard: Using a Brother knitting machine, I created my own floral jacquard patterns, reminiscent of the carpets or curtains found in a traditional grandma’s home.

Store-Bought Florals: Existing, ready-made floral prints are reinterpreted and layered into contemporary silhouettes. Quilted Puffer Vest: Inspired by a grandmother’s quilt, this vest features a digitally created floral graphic that is then quilted using an embroidery machine, combining craftsmanship with digital design.

Floral Swim Cap: A stereotypical grandma-style swim cap is reimagined in knit, transforming a playful, kitschy accessory into a crafted statement piece.

Cyanotype Prints: Classic floral motifs are reinvented through the cyanotype process, creating a fresh, modern take on a nostalgic print.
Lace
Lace, another motif traditionally associated with grandmothers, is explored through a variety of techniques that blend craft and innovation.

Digitalized Lace Prints: Lace patterns derived from cyanotype processes are digitized and professionally printed, transforming a handcrafted aesthetic into a precise, graphic that I applied on a puffer coat. Lace-Enhanced Trekking Sandals: Classic trekking sandals are reimagined with lace straps, which are coated and waterproofed for durability, merging traditional femininity with functional, modern footwear.

Cyanotype prints to represent the dream state of this colletion. Furthermore, this process created through slow sunlight exposure, captures fleeting moments like a grandmother’s memories, marked but fading. The deep blue of cyanotypes matches a grandma’s melancholic mood, linking her wise spirit to Antarctica’s icy, timeless preservation, where history is frozen, much like her role in keeping family traditions through crafts and stories.
